How to organize recipes saved on Instagram
Create collections by cooking situation, like “Quick dinner” or “No oven”, and write down, outside the video, what you need from the store: ingredients, measurements and prep time.
Step by step
- In Instagram's Saved, create collections by cooking situation: “Quick dinner”, “No oven”, “Desserts”.
- When you save a recipe, pick the collection right then.
- Before cooking, write down the ingredients, measurements and oven time somewhere outside the video.
Organize around when you cook
“Recipes” turns into a huge list within a few weeks. A collection by situation answers the question you ask in the kitchen: what can I make in 20 minutes? What doesn't need an oven? Don't create a collection per ingredient: start with the situations that repeat in your week.
If you don't use collections yet, see how to organize saved Reels.
What to check before you go shopping
- Measurements: did the creator say the amounts or only show the ingredients?
- Yield: how many people does the recipe serve?
- Total time: is there resting, marinating or chilling time beyond what the video shows?
- Equipment: does it need an oven, a food processor or a specific pan?
Often the full recipe is in the caption or the link in their bio. If a measurement doesn't appear anywhere, write down the question instead of guessing.
The recipe outside the video
In KeepScroll, the recipe video becomes text: ingredients, instructions and a shopping list to copy. When the creator doesn't say a measurement, the app doesn't make one up: the item shows only what was in the video.
After cooking, save your own note with it, like “in my oven it needed 5 more minutes”. If the recipe got lost among so many others, search by ingredient: see how to find a Reel by what was said.
