How to find a Reel by what was said in the video
Instagram searches captions, profiles and audio, not what's said in each video. Search for two concrete words from what was said, together with the subject, open the results and check the audio.
Step by step
- Write down what you remember of what was said and pull two concrete words from it, like “pressure cooker beans”.
- Type those words into Instagram search, with the creator's name if you know it.
- Open the results and check the audio. If nothing comes up, swap one word for a synonym.
Why the exact phrase almost never works
Instagram search looks through captions, profiles, hashtags and audio, not what's said in each video. If the creator said the tip out loud and only wrote “did you know?” in the caption, the phrase won't come up in search.
On top of that, memory keeps the meaning, not the words. You remember “no need to soak”, but the creator may have said “it goes straight into the pot”. So search by the subject and the action, not the phrase.
Where else to look
- In Saved: if you saved the Reel, open the collection for that subject and listen to the likely candidates. See how to search your saved Reels.
- In your watch history: if you only watched it, look in your Reels watch history, following the guide to find a video you saw.
- On YouTube: many creators post the same content there, where the transcript lets you search what was said. See how to find what was said on YouTube.
Speech you can search
Instagram doesn't transcribe your Saved items so you can search them. In KeepScroll, every Reel you share is transcribed when it has speech, and the transcript goes into search. A Reel saved today shows up months from now when you type a word that was said in it.
Still haven't found it? Follow the general walkthrough to find a video by what was said, which works for any network.
