How to find a Reel you saved months ago
Start with what you did with the Reel: if you saved it, it's in ☰ → Saved; if you liked it, in Your activity → Likes; if you only watched it, in your Reels watch history. Then use the creator or a detail from the scene to get to the video.
Where to look
It depends on what you did with the Reel:
- Saved it: your profile picture → ☰ → Saved.
- Liked it: ☰ → Your activity → Likes.
- Only watched it: ☰ → Your activity → Watch history.
- Sent it to someone: the chat in Direct or on WhatsApp.
In Saved, start with the collection
A Reel from months ago ends up way down the list. If you use collections, open the one for the subject: “Recipes”, “Travel”, “Home”. If you don't, scroll through the whole list and watch for covers from around the time you saved it.
The timing helps you get your bearings, but it doesn't settle it: a Reel posted in 2023 may have reached your feed last month.
Use the creator and the subject
- Remember who posted it? Open their profile and look in the Reels tab.
- Don't remember? Search Instagram for the subject plus a detail: the dish, the city, the object.
- Open the results and check the caption and the audio before deciding it's the same video.
If what stuck with you is a line from the video, follow the guide to find a Reel by what was said.
What if the Reel is gone?
Saving keeps a shortcut to the Reel, not a copy. If the creator deleted the video or made the account private, it disappears from Saved and doesn't come back, no matter how hard you look.
When you find something important again, write one line about why it matters, like “sauce without cream to try on Saturday”. That clue is yours and helps with the next search. If you don't even remember which network you saw it on, start with the walkthrough to find a saved video without remembering its name.
