How to find a video by what was said
Search for the phrase you remember in quotes on Google and on the network where you saw the video. If it doesn't show up, swap the phrase for two concrete words about the topic. Found the video? Use the transcript to get to the right part.
Step by step
- Search for the phrase you remember in quotes on Google and on the network where you saw the video.
- No results? Remove the quotes and use two concrete words about the topic, plus the creator if you know it.
- Found the video? Open the transcript to get to the exact part.
If you remember the exact phrase
Put the phrase in quotes and add the topic: “it's the King Kong of slices” pizza. A short, unusual phrase is the best clue there is. If nothing comes up, remove the quotes: you probably remember an approximate version.
If you only remember the idea
Social network search looks in titles, captions and hashtags, almost never in what's said in the video. So turn the idea into two concrete words that are probably in the caption: “coffee container moisture” instead of “how to store coffee so it doesn't go bad”. Change one word at a time.

- YouTube: see how to use the transcript.
- Can't remember the network: look in your chats and in each app's history.
With the video in hand, go to the right part
On YouTube, tap the description and then Show transcript: each line takes you to the moment it was said. For short videos without a transcript, turn on captions and watch again, paying attention to that part.
Listen before you use the information. Automatic transcripts get names, numbers and accented words wrong.
So you never rely on memory again
KeepScroll transcribes what's said in every video you save. Then search looks through that speech: you type “king kong” and find the pizzeria video, even if those words aren't in the title or the caption. See the app to search inside videos.
